Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life

The list of all the means and tricks to make our lives and our health better, is endless. Most of the people that know all too well about their flaws and deficiencies, take one look at their life and see it like that. Their glass is always half empty. They drink up these advices like a dry soil in the rain, advices that are of course not all equally good.

We all want to improve something in our lives but we didn´t get instructions or an IKEA hex key to build the perfect life when we were born, so we welcome everything and anything. To wish not to be so sick and weak, unemployed, poor, debt-ridden, loveless or lonely, has shown us that it doesn´t do the trick.

The infamous cliché “you are what you think” really does make a lot of sense. It actually is that simple! And equally difficult. To be able to rip ourselves out of that negative victimized thought, that is. To wish for something, does not work by itself. We need to carry through with realization to accomplish something we want to change. And as long as we keep going and do not quit, things will change. Because when we start this mental training, a certain placebo effect takes place in the body.

Somehow, life or the universe doesn´t take notice of certain words we have come up with. Like the words, don´t, quit, stop and etc. Negative words that keep us locked in that negative mode we have so efficiently and effectively trained to be in all our adult life. If we really want to get rid of some habit, addiction, circumstances or something we just don´t feel good about or right with, then we need to focus on the positive opposite and always focus and concentrate on a certain goal. And keep it elevated. Our mind becomes more receptive for solutions and starts it´s preperations for the task at hand. If we can get even only half way there, we are still light-years from where we started.

Because of this,we should always turn our desires and wishes towards the things we want in life. Not away from the things we don´t want, because all of our focus would just be on the negative.

«I wanna quit smoking» would then become «I want to be free of cigarettes». «I don´t want to be broke » would be « I want to be succesful and have enough». «I don´t want to be sick and hurting» would be «I want to be healthy and full of energy».

It can be very dodgy at times, to find the positive contrast, but then it can be helpful to write down a list of things we want in life, and what we don´t want. If we find the opposite on our list, we cross out the negative one.

It may require incredible concentration for a long period of time for a change of attitude to take place for real. But it is critical not to give up. This can take time. While the aim might be high, we should try to keep it realistic. Keep it in touch with reality so we can easily picture it in our minds, sense the feeling of how it is to be in that place in life.


And that is what can be so difficult. To close our eyes and feel it in every bone to have that dream job, to be healthy, to have enough, be happy or whatever we can think of. When we are beginning to learn how to bring ourselves into the feelings that we plan to have and feel in life, our so very complex brain begins to work to get us there. By implementing as needed.

And then it counts the most not to destroy ourselves by whining again and complaining. Because, as we fall back into the habit of complaining of pain, debt, loneliness and of all the problems we face, we turn back almost instantly to that starting point.

What we must always bear in mind is that this fixed mind setting, only works on ourselves. If we need other people to be this or that, we must always aim from our own perspective and change our attitude towards them. We cannot change others by picturing them in our mind as we would like them to be. We can only change the feelings we want to have for them and our own behavior. And if we even want to have them in our lives.

The mind really does half the job and I have personal experience of that. There are so many situations I have changed already in my life and so many changes I plan to realize in the future. But there are long roads to some of them, many turns, forks and crossroads and I know that it will take time. But since I have used this method in all sorts of occasions and won gracefully, I know this works. And I will get to the place in life I want to be in, this way, there is no question about that.

This I know, because I have come far enough in life already to prove this to myself and today, like every day, is the first day of the rest of my life.
