I am writing
something real close to my heart. I have a degree in Engineering from
one of the most prestigious institutions in India, BMS college of
Engineering Bangalore. I loved computers and I loved coding. I was
really good at it. I had quite good paying jobs in Bangalore and Pune
(big cities in India).
After my wedding, I had to move to
Kolkata which used to be the capital of colonial India and it was
like falling back in time. You can still feel the pre-British era air
here, still rustic, reminding you of the times gone by. It’s like
while the whole country moved ahead, time just froze here. Technology
took the whole country by storm, but most people earn their daily
wages here doing physical work. There are hardly any good companies
here and the pay sucks. I still managed to find a great job in a
start up with a decent pay.
There was a lot of pressure, but
I was still loving my work. Fate however decided otherwise. Just coz
there’s a dearth of good companies here, good brains migrate towards
greener pastures, creating a dearth of good people here. We struggled
to form a team. The irony was our team consisted of people who were
outside Kolkata and had to move back due to some or the other
obligation, but the number still wasn’t enough, and the company had
to shift base to Mumbai. Work became even more hectic and there
absolutely was no work outside that interested me, let alone pay me
decent amount, most of the companies used outdated technologies. I
do not own a car and the commute to work used to take a toll on my
health. I wasn’t even able to give sufficient time to my husband
and family. Finally fed up I decided to quit and start something of
my own.
Kolkata is known for cheap manual labour. We get good
quality Indian dresses with hand embroidery and handwork at real good
prices and the quality is super awesome. Most people from nearby
areas come here for their wedding shopping. This is the reason even
big Indian designers get their dresses made here. Hollywood actress
Priyanka Chopra’s wedding attire was also made here. So that is
what I began selling online on Facebook groups. Initially it was very
frustrating, I missed my job, the end of month pays, the security and
I felt completely lost. I still feel it at times. But you know I
learnt quite a lot. Someone told me when you buy a new pair of shoes,
it will definitely hurt for a while, but it will only be for a short
time and then you start loving them. So just hang on for a bit. The
journey will definitely be easier with your new pair!!! Just have
faith in him. I realised when the door shut, no matter how hard I
kicked it or banged on it, it would not open. So quit brooding over
it, get up, pull up your socks and start running again coz god has
better plans for you. For all you know, even after the setback, you
might reach faster than you would have otherwise reached. I am still
struggling but I also know that if I give up or stop then I won’t
have anything. So, each morning I get up with new found vigour, ready
to seize the day. I know it in me that I can, and I know I will. At
the start of each week I tell the universe I want ‘x’ number of
customers or ‘y’ amount of sales and then stop thinking about it.
It actually works till the time I get upset for a little lesser sale
or no sale someday or for some customer cancelling orders last
minute. Instead of having faith that I will get more I get upset and
then things stop. I am still new to this, still practising and I have
seen the small wonders I have been able to achieve with this. I just
need to have more faith in the universe, practise visualization and
meditation and I am sure I will achieve what I want. For now, I am
working from the comfort of my home, getting to spend enough time
with the people who matter to me, get good home cooked food. I also
get more time and energy to read, write and watch good stuffs on
television, things I really love but lacked time to do these with my
8 to 9 job (yes that’s how much time I spent working and travelling
to work).
So, my advice to all of you in the same boat is to be happy. Be Positive. Read or watch good positive things and refrain from discussing your problem with others. The last point is especially important coz when you discuss your problems, you send out negative vibrations to the universe and attract more of such negativity. So, shut out the negative thoughts. Things will slowly but steadily improve. In the process never stop dreaming about tour goal.
